Shine a Light on Corruption

Friends, Now is the time to Shine a Light on Corruption!

For nearly two years, Micah Challenge worked to ensure that some really good rules to fight corruption would become law. The vehicle for this was a set of rules attached to Section 1504 of the Dodd Frank Act. The rules require companies in extractive industries (oil, gas, minerals, mining) to disclose payments made to foreign governments.

The rules would create the transparency needed to expose corruption in some of the most resources rich yet poorest nations in the world. Now is the time to shine a light on corruption related to natural resource extraction, and allow the immense revenue from natural resources to be spent fighting extreme poverty, rather than be pocketed!

What happened?

This week, members of Congress have begun a process to completely void the anti-corruption rules. We are disheartened by this because we know how important transparency is for our brothers and sisters around the world. A few years ago we asked Micah Challenge folks around the world what is the greatest inhibitor to overcoming extreme poverty in your community? Hands down from Africa to Latin America the answer was corruption.

Take Action to ensure our nation doesn’t roll back these anti-corruption, pro-transparency rules!

What can you do

Stopping the bill requires a majority of Congress to oppose the bill to void these critically important rules. The best thing you can do is call your Senator and urge them to oppose this measure.

Call both of your Senators and Representative in the House using the form below.  Simply enter your address and we will show you who to contact and how to contact them!

Secondly, please pray that the reality and implications of this bill would be exposed.  Right now the conversation amongst our leaders is about how regulations cost companies money, but lack of regulation costs lives.  Pray that the truth will be spoken.
